The Research Data Alliance (RDA) is a global community, comprising more than 14,000 members from over 150 countries, that builds social and technical bridges to enable researchers and innovators to share and re-use data across technologies, disciplines and geographical boundaries.

With more than 100 active community groups, the RDA has a strong focus on persistent identifiers (PIDs) as foundational elements of scholarly infrastructure. For example, the PID Interest Group focuses on synchronising efforts and addressing emerging PID-related topics. The National PID Strategy Working Group coordinates and aligns national PID strategies and approaches, and aims to produce a guide to assist countries looking to develop a PID strategy and collect national case studies. Finally, the Working with PIDs in Tools Interest Group addresses interoperability between tools/e-infrastructures, leveraging PID and metadata infrastructure.

This panel discussion brings representatives from these RDA groups together with international PID experts to discuss the current landscape around PIDs, and to openly share identifier-related challenges, solutions, and initiatives for the future. This session not only provides an exciting opportunity to showcase the work (Recommendations and Outputs) of relevant RDA groups on PIDs, but also to exchange ideas, use cases, best practices, success stories, and lessons learned with an expert audience.
